Coming Up Cane
One of my favorite things about interior design is watching trends. It is fascinating for me to see brand new concepts and resurgences of old ones. I love when people pair contemporary and vintage pieces to create a unique and impactful space. The recent comeback I'm loving the most: cane.
Caned furniture has been around since ancient Egypt and has withstood the test of time due to its lightweight nature, water-resistance, and beautiful appearance. Cane comes from rattan plants across southeast Asia, is fast-growing and, therefore, highly-sustainable (major win). Additionally, it is also very sturdy, thanks to its woven design, so cane pieces tend to be great for extensive use.
While the practical characteristics of caned furniture make it great for the home, the aesthetic is what really seals the deal for me. While wicker pieces tend to be treated or painted, I love that cane furnishings are usually left in their natural state. The tones and organic look bring a gorgeous element to any room. I recently snagged a cane credenza for our home office, and I love how it pairs with some bold, clean accents. Give me all the earthy and modern fusions, please and thank you!
Eclectic Goods is on point with cane pieces this year! Not only did they source some amazing chairs and tables, they also launched the brand new Smithe Collection. This product line is seriously to die for. ECG stocks both natural and black, with the latter being my favorite. What can I say, I'm a sucker for contrast? Every Smithe piece feels like the perfect refresh to a classic style, and I can(e)'t get enough! See what I did there? Okay, I'll stop gushing now.
