Pride Month
There is a lot to love about June - longer days, the official start of summer, and Pride. While the history of the movement for LGBTQ+ rights stems further back, the events that transpired on this day in 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in New York City served as the catalyst for the movement. The protests that followed from June 28th through July 3rd laid the groundwork for progression towards equality for LGBTQ+ folx. 51 years later, we tribute June as Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall uprising and folx who were not accepted in society. Make no mistake, we still have a lot of work to do.
Pride at its core is the celebration of self. It honors the bold, powerful, and courageous leap of faith that individuals took and still take to own their identity as LGBTQ+. When I think about Pride, I think of joy, compassion, freedom, expression, triumph, acceptance, and love. But mostly, I think about individuality. Each person on this Earth is beautifully unique. Pride reminds us to rejoice that fact.
With individuality and pops of color as my compass, I created a Pride-inspired lookbook to close out this wonderful month.
