Palette Pick - Cognac
Perhaps it's the fact that it is my favorite season (summer), but I am drawn to all things warm right now. In fashion, I'm eyeing up beige co-ords. In beauty, I'm loving a lightly sunkissed face with matte taupe shadows. It makes sense that I'm craving more richness in homes too. We've seen cooler palettes for years now, so I'm digging a little temperature change when it comes to design, and one color that I'm crushing on hardest is cognac.
Although whites, creams, and grays are still a staple, you've probably noticed too how earthy tones are becoming more and more mainstream. Beige, terracotta, rust, and rose are gorgeous, but there is something about cognac that I can't get over. I think one of the reasons why is because it is still a neutral. Since I'm trying to be more conscientious about the longevity of each piece that I buy for my home, I find myself gravitating towards classic hues. Would I love a curved rose sofa? Absolutely! But I can't justify it right now knowing I may tire of it in a few years. Cognac furnishings have been around for a long time, so it feels safe and yet not the least bit overdone.
From a color psychology standpoint, cognac is a blend of deep reds and browns, fusing the symbolism of both. It is typically associated with luxury, ambition, and competence, in part thanks to its use in Victorian Era estates. A touch of cognac can add an instant hint of sophistication to any room. Since it's commonly seen in leather pieces, it can also feel a hint rugged. I love seeing it balanced with softer elements like velvet pillows or high pile Moroccan rugs. The juxtaposition keeps it feeling fresh.
If you aren't 100% sold on cognac, then these inspiration pictures will certainly win you over!
