Style Picks for Your Enneagram Type
I'm not sure where the interest stemmed from, but I am all about personality assessments. From dissecting my horoscope - (and no, I'm not talking about cheesy horoscopes in Cosmo) to reviewing my StrengthsFinder profile, I enjoy reflecting on my core traits, motivations, strengths, and weaknesses. One of the evaluations that has blown up in the last few years is the Enneagram. This system was introduced to the modern world in the early 20th century, but has gained recent popularity thanks to social media. Whether it's a podcast like Typology or an Instagram feed like Enneagram & Coffee, there is abundant information to dive fully into the study of the Enneagram.
The Enneagram system seeks to evaluate personality based on our motivations. For example, as an Enneagram 8, I fear being weak or vulnerable. This can come across as being protective of those closest to me. Knowing this about myself can help me understand how I may appear to others and adjust accordingly. It also can help those around me understand my behavior in times when I feel instability (i.e. 2020). While the system is most often applied in interpersonal scenarios, I think it can also serve as a guide in your home design. Take Type 7s for example, who can oftentimes be a bit disorganized. By acknowledging this, you can make intentional design choices to help you stay tidy, like buying storage baskets and casework furnishings with plenty of drawers or shelves. Overall, knowing your Enneagram type can be a powerful tool to deeper understand yourself and those around you.
Given that many people know their Enneagram type, I figured it would be fun to share a shopping guide for each! If you don't know your Enneagram, you can easily take an evaluation to get started. You'll notice that different sources use slight variants of names, but the core traits and details are always the same.
